The magnetic connectors by GT Contact are a fantastic solution if you require a 2 contact connector which can be disconnected extremely quickly or used in an area where accidental damage to connectors or cables is likely.

The magnetic connector range is designed for extra-low voltage applications such as battery charging and as such has a rated current of 5A at 30V AC/DC. The unique design allows the connector to rotate a full 360 degrees without loss of the electrical connection. The connectors are available in panel mount, with a short 4mm flange depth in front of the panel and solder or pre-wired terminations along with either a 90 degree or straight pre-wired cable connector. The cable connector can be produced to nearly any length required and can be blunt cut or terminated with a USB plug or other connector of your choosing.

The cable mount connector is designed to fit cut-outs of 20.75mm or can be used in a 19.2mm by 20.75mm D-cut to ensure the connector does not twist and can be fitted with an additional rubber cap. The panel mount connectors are also rear potted ensuring the panel retains its IP67 rating. While the panel mount connector and cable connectors are individually IP67 rated, due to the design of the magnetic connector the connection itself is not waterproof.

FAQs

Magnetic connectors are a style of connector that are held in place by magnets rather than conventional locking mechanisms such as screw or bayonet. Due to this design they are very easy to connect and disconnect which is ideal for areas where cables could be damaged by accidental pulling. However, the terminations are less environmentally sealed due to the force of the magnets used.

Magnetic connectors work in the same way as a standard connector, by connecting the positive and negative pins are which creates a circuit. The difference with magnetic connectors is through their use of positive and negative magnets within the connector housing. This attraction of the opposing magnetic force pulls the two connector ends together creating the connection of the pins inside.
