Pushbuttons

A pushbutton switch requires a downward pressure to activate or deactivate a circuit. They typically provide a simple on-off function, although double-throw (on-on) and multi-pole variants are also available. Their switching action can be maintained (latching) or momentary (returning to their original position once pressure is removed). We offer a wide range of pushbutton styles and shapes with panel and/or pcb-mounting options. Some are also available with LED illumination and a choice of cap and lens colours.

Frequently Asked Questions about Pushbutton Switches

A pushbutton is a simple type of switch, which is designed to complete or disconnect an electrical circuit when the actuator is pressed. Pushbutton switches are used in a huge variety of applications, including white goods, lift controls, keyboards and industrial machinery.

The term “push button” usually refers to a style of switch, where the internal contacts make or break an electrical circuit when the button actuator is pressed or released.

A pushbutton is a simple type of switch, where the spring-loaded internal contacts change state (switch) when the actuator is pressed. Pushbutton switches can have a momentary or latching action, and the switching function can be normally-open (also known as push-to-make), normally-closed (push-to-break) or changeover (containing both normally-open and normally-closed contacts).

A momentary pushbutton switch has one or more internal springs which return the actuator (or button) to its normal rest position when no force is being applied to it. As the button is pressed or released the electrical contacts within the switch change state from Off to On or vice versa, thereby switching one or more electrical circuits on or off.
