FAQs

A circular connector is quite simply an electrical component used for mating two separate cables or a cable to a device which have a circular shaped housing.

A circular connector works by allowing two opposite connectors to mate creating a circuit. These connections can be cable to cable or cable to panel. The circular style allows for these type of connectors to mate with a threaded, bayonet or push-push style locking mechanism which allows for great variety and great sealing against the environments.

Circular connectors are a style of electrical connector that all have a circular body shape. This allows for a plug and socket to mate (fit together) in a variety of different ways such as screwing or a bayonet-style fitting. Circular connectors have a wide range of different contact numbers and layouts and they are often waterproof, making them ideal for many different applications from scientific instruments to robust military equipment.

The main benefits of circular connectors is their ease of use and the variety of mating styles and sizes. Circular connectors are available in many different sizes from tiny 6mm diameter snap-in connectors to large robust connectors which can handle extremely high currents and voltages. The different mating styles also allow for either quick disconnect with snap-in or push-pull style mating through to very strong, IP68 threaded connectors, ideal for harsh environments.

A connector is the general terminology for the components used to connect cables together or to a device. A connector can be in-line meaning cable to cable or cable to panel and can transmit both electrical power and electronic signals as well as non-electrical signals such as hydraulic. A port however refers to panel mount connectors that receive and transmit electrical signals only.
